Mercury Free Thermometer

From 2009, mercury thermometer is replaced by mercury free thermometer. It is also called non-mercury thermometer or gallium thermometer.

Gallium, Indium, Tin mixture liquid have similar physical characteristics as mercury, after filled inside of thermometer, it could have same function of mercury thermometer. This mixture is easily oxidized in air, thermometer have vacuum space, so only have mercury free thermometer, but not have mercury free sphygmomanometer.

Compare with mercury thermometer, it have some disadvantages, for example, unit weight of mixture liquid is lighter than mercury, so need more times to shake off after measuring. 

Compare with digital thermometer, accuracy is the overwhelming advantage, but digital thermometers are easier to read.
